@AkaSci I am highly skeptical of this. It has to be a composite image, right? One that just pastes our side of the moon onto the dark circle of the eclipse?

He explains a bit on his Instagram post how he took this image. It is a composite of multiple images taken at different exposure levels during the eclipse. The moon image is probably very highly overexposed.
So, I think this is real.

Just confirming it is a composite image.
It looks great. It just obviously cannot be a single exposure (at least to anyone who has tried to take a great shot of the moon)

19/n@AkaSci I’ve seen two videos giving slightly different angles of this, and I prefer the less closeup one where the ramp’s curve is flush with the edge of the moon/sun so that he looks like he actually has wheels on the curve of the eclipse. But who am I to nitpick?? It’s an amazing shot.🤩

I think most of us would call it bracketed exposures.Sensors have wide dynamic ranges, but we use our retinas in a similar way on, eg, a landscape in sunset,shading our eyes in order to see the landscape, and assembling the experience from the different exposures.
Composite implies something else, artistic rather than technical.

The sun and moon loom over the 800 year old Burgos Cathedral in Spain. "The final result contains much more data from the multiple exposures of the solar corona, even revealing the night side of the Moon."
