Today I went to the library (a different library than my previous thread) to watch a conference about the digital billboards in the city: their effects on human health and biodiversity, the existing laws regulating their use, whether those laws are being enforced, and the political challenges involved. It was organized by an NGO that has been keeping track of environmental hazards in the city for years.

They mentioned that France has the biggest outdoor advertising company in the world, JCDecaux, and that passing laws that hurt the bottom line of such a big player is touchy. They also mentioned that putting ads in things like bus shelters is initially a good deal for the city, but over time they get less and less value out of it, "like with Uber". Either they are avid @pluralistic readers, or they've reached the same conclusions independently 🙂
