"Yes, botcott!
Ray-Ban is a brand of EssilorLuxottica
EssilorLuxottica has invested in Israel by acquiring Nuance Hearing, a Tel Aviv-based startup. This is not its first in Israel. In 2010, the company acquired a 50% stake in Shamir Optical, an optical lens manufacturer in Kibbutz Shamir, Upper Galilee, for $130 million, and later purchased the remaining 50% in 2022."https://masjidalaqsa.com/israeli-product-checker-boycott-list

How about dabbing a bit of silver nitrate solution on the camera lens and exposing the glasses to sunlight? Puts a lovely layer of solid black over the lens! -
Vielleicht ein Grund doch mal eine Mikrowelle anzuschaffen...
Maybe that's a reason to get a microwave...

Private #MassSurveillance and the virtual end of #Privacy in public spaces(1/2)
Why this matters:
"#Meta and #RayBan’s new #AIglasses can be used to secretly record women and young people for sexual reasons,” the #EHE spokesperson continued in their statement to #Hyperallergic. “Simply put, that’s abuse.” The chasm between legality and ethics continues to widen as the use of smart glasses poses additional risks at sites of expected privacy, including hospitals, restrooms,...

@harrysentonbury @vowe Almost everything eyeglasses-related is a brand of EssilorLuxottica. Good luck with that boycott.

@vowe will that destroy the camera stuff? I have no idea how microwaves and electronics interact.

This would make a great Instagram post.
@jumpingjackrussell @vowe No it wouldn't. Don't copy this post to Instagram. Under no circumstances. Don't even think about doing it. Everybody will hate you.

There's a campaign against these glasses, who have a great sticker, but also a good discussion on proper use cases for people with visual impairments. See:

I put my Meta Raybans in for a minute and half because it's only 1100 watts rather than 1500.
It's important to know the power of your microwave so you know how long they'll take. -

@vowe you’re right, the microwave improved the prescription. I didn’t need to go back to the optometrist. You saved me a lot of money.
