One thing I've noticed is "Translate" links showing up when the post is English. My interface language is English as well as my default posting language. Usually there's no Translate link with English posts (like yours above). But I think I started seeing them on Lemmy posts & now elsewhere. I usually take that as an indication that the post has the wrong language setting, but not always.

Hmm... that's weird!
One thing that has come up in the past is if people set it to be a specific form of English (en-gb, en-us etc), Mastodon doesn't always recognise this as English.
Some platforms have more English options than Mastodon. It's possible that the language codes on certain platforms aren't matching up with those used on Mastodon?

Yes, I suspect it may be something like different English dialects, as you say. I suppose I should say I assume the posts are set to English. I don't know how to see that in someone else's post on the web. But usually if I click to compose a reply, it will set my language to the same as the original post. My reply is set to English with the posts in question, so I assume they are set to English.

Here's a post (from a bot). I see a "Translate" link, but my reply defaults to English. Not sure about the language setting in the OP.
*Edit* Somehow the "link to post" was a dead 404. The corrected link shows it as it appears on mas.to.

Robot.villas is a non-Mastodon Fedi platform, so it is possibly using a language tag that Mastodon isn't familiar with, and that's messing things up somehow.
