    @complexmath

    Right, but hasn't that been true, since, like, at least the industrial revolution, and also going back to the serfs of the Middle Ages?

    I think those in power have always been anti-labor.

    LLM-gen-AI is just the latest fad to give those in power an excuse to mistreat the working class.

    @bkuhn It seems like there were a lot of computer programmers who didn't get the memo til now, hence, "the knowledge" in the original post

        An ex actually did something like this!

        They terminated her IT contract prior to a huge holiday event, then realized they had nobody to run cables or set up the AV equipment. Reached out to her with a heyyyyy, would you...?

        She responded with an eye-watering consultant fee. Non-negotiable. Figured they would Fuck Off.

        THEY PAID IT

        So my ex made like $11,000 for a weekend's work because these asshats fired her.

                    It's a reasonable question! But no.

                    Due to the compressed time frame (they called on a Thursday for a Saturday/Sunday event) she didn't get it in writing until Friday noonish, giving her about 30 hours to do two full days of setup. By herself. She moved at warp speed, no time to explain what she did or why, and without help so.. nobody got trained.

                      And NOW we are talking. It’s about the Boss. The economy. Not AI.

                      AI is just the symptom.

                        My nephew was one of those early DOGE layoffs. He's now doing the same work for 3 times the money, working for a company founded by his former boss, who was also laid off by the teenage know-it-alls.

                          @complexmath and the damage that AI is doing will take decades to reverse. If reversal is even possible after they destroy our fresh water, poison our environments and bankrupt entire communities.

                            An excellent outcome! Sadly, most DOGE layoffs didn't end with that kind of success.

                              @complexmath I've made it a point to never have a boss, but the one time I did have a boss, I straight up did what I wanted instead of what he wanted, I think that's why he let me go?
