    @EUCommission
Normally I am in heated agreement with EU style regulation but I'm not on this.

VW only uses VW parts on VW cars. Do consumers have a right to buy a VW car and insist on a Toyota steering wheel? Obviously not.

@traveling_mike @EUCommission many parts of a VW car is not VW made. In fairness my friend has a GTI Golf with very cool modifications on it

@Ilka4You @EUCommission No, it’s not. For the past decade, Apple’s features alone were perfectly fine, and we never needed any third parties involved in the core functions. They should just leave it that way. Forcing this change is as absurd as requiring car manufacturers to let you swap engines from other brands, just because we’re in the EU and supposedly must have the option to choose which engine we want in our car. How stupid that would be?

I don't know if you're old enough, but do you remember when Safari was the only browser available in Apple's products?

Was your user experience better when you couldn't choose to use Chrome, Firefox or any other browser?

@webjac @rzeta0 @Ombligoelemento @EUCommission It's an illusion that the consumer has anything to say here. As soon as the market is concentrated enough into a few companies they tell the consumer what he wants to buy and not the other way around.

In the end you don't vote with your wallet but will your Ballot, e.g. at the next election of the European parliament.

@kaidu @rzeta0 @Ombligoelemento @EUCommission I admit in markets so concentrated is really hard to vote with your wallet. But you still can. I don’t plan on buy an iPhone until the choice of models is released. I also plan to vote on the European Parliament next opportunity.

@EUCommission I just find it amazing how different everyone’s take on this is. Apple says the EU is to blame for Siri AI not launching here, while you guys say it’s entirely Apple’s fault. Let’s be honest, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. I also think it’s good that we don’t just rubber-stamp solutions from tech giants like Apple as if there were no risks involved. However, I do wonder: Why didn’t Apple try harder? Apple has been stringing us along since 2024, promising that the AI features would come. In all that time, surely it should have been possible to find a constructive solution for everyone.

@tonio @EUCommission Apple has always been about vendor lock-in. Whether you believe it's because they insist on quality or because they can charge high prices because Apple products only work with Apple products, the fact remains that their brand was never about interoperability and choice, and that clashes with EU law.

@EUCommission You should take a look at who supports this EU regulation. In this case, it’s anyone who wants full access to Apple users’ data.

And yes, Apple likes to use these arguments to shut out the competition. But in this case, things are a bit more complicated.

@EUCommission Addendum: It is highly doubtful whether Apple is capable of securely operating Apple Intelligence even within its own secure environment (on-device or in the Private Compute Cloud environment). The potential for attacks on the language models via the processed data is extensive.

@EUCommission @gklka Hey, you should tell this to the three people using any “alternative marketplace” on iOS.

As an Apple user, I don’t care who says what. I buy Apple products because of their functionality and seamless integration. These regulations are negatively impacting the user experience of this integration, which you clearly have no fucking clue about. Nobody asked you to disrupt this with any regulations.

@d4v 1st of all, 1 software onm a device is hardly comparable to the motor of a car. if you want to stick with this example it would be comparable to a feature like seat heating or soundsystem. Your engine would be the processor. 2nd: EU wants to protect free choice of customers, Apple wants to dominate the market by cutting laws and consumer rights.

Normally I am in heated agreement with EU style regulation but I'm not on this.

VW only uses VW parts on VW cars. Do consumers have a right to buy a VW car and insist on a Toyota steering wheel? Obviously not.

I don't understand your argument. Anyone is allowed to fit wheels from any supplier, or battery, or many other parts that are typically supplied as an "add on". There are multiple specialist suppliers of car parts for most major models of car.
The maker of a model (not just cars) are obliged by the EU, to provide a proper spec, then any competent supplier can design their items to fit.
This prevents monopoly overcharging for 'parts' to anything.

"by the way, powered by Google" and the face he makes there.

                                        The burn ... 👍

I see people can have fun in the European Commission, too.

@EUCommission I would have replaced "unable" with "unwilling" there.
