I'm finally ready to take the Fediverse seriously.

@tylerwoodwardproject What is your podcast? this site has some great tips on using Mastodon and other Fediverse apps. https://fedi.tips/ you can also look at this hashtag, #FediTips
@WeirdWriter https://tylerwoodward.me it leans heavy into broadcast radio engineering, my day job, and my passion.

@tylerwoodwardproject welcome!
that's a very interesting observation that X has devalued platform identity attestations everywhere. as an anarchist, we personally think that's a good thing, but good or bad it's definitely interesting. thanks for that.
@ireneista I meant you just pay money now to verify yourself. The original Twitter way of doing verification where you only got the blue check mark if you were some known figure. That is what I was fine with. Bluesky still does something close to that original idea.

I'm finally ready to take the Fediverse seriously. Years of tech overreach and enshittification have worn me out.
The final straw came when Meta decided I should pay over $50 a month just to share a few links to my own podcast. That includes a blue check that means nothing anymore (thanks, X). They already sell ads and our data. Now they want my money too.
Bear with me while I adjust. If I pull out old habits, please don't yell at me.
@tylerwoodwardproject $50 a month? Wow, Meta's got some nerve.
Welcome!

@tylerwoodwardproject yeah we were never fond of either of them. trans women, no matter how widely known and accomplished, were somehow never "known" in the sense twitter as a company cared about... so it amounted to a tool for perpetuating the existing social hierarchy, which we had no interest in
we do see how, yes, it just being an indicator that someone paid money is bad in a different way

Welcome!
@collectifission Yeah, it's now in the Meta One Advanced Plan which runs $50/month.. No thanks. I'd rather go somewhere where I own my data and don't get locked in a wall garden.

@ireneista got it. Was not aware of that.

@tylerwoodwardproject new folks here used to get a bit of an HOA vibe for a while. Getting finger-wagging replies for small transgressions. I think that has tamped down. There’s definitely a culture here, but new folks are always welcome. Follow tons of people, block and mute liberally, and it becomes a genuine, fun place. Welcome aboard!

We don't yell, we gently chide.
Of course, some (and they are mostly men), read 'chiding' as 'yelling'. But learning to accept criticism is yet another important social skill we (especially in the USA) fail to teach well.
@jackwilliambell as long as it’s not glad-handed

@tylerwoodwardproject Welcome to the Fediverse! I think you'll find it to be refreshingly more authentic and human here compared to "standard" socials

@tylerwoodwardproject
Majority of the artists are on Instagram and X (Twitter) unfortunately.
Hope you find this platform useful

@tylerwoodwardproject Hello! I hope you'll like it here. You will across some less than fun people as everywhere else, but thankfully here they are a minority.
