ALERT
for all #FOSS projects out there which get donations via PayPal. In the last 2 days we've gotten several donations (some as "purchase") ranging from 250 → 500 USD. Always same amount as USD (which was suspicious since we rarely get USD).
The trick of the cheaters: They will open a "Paypal Buyers protection" case and if you just send back the money rather than "cancelling" the real transaction, they will get the money twice...
Suggestion: Mark it as fraud and let Paypal resolve it.

@davx5app
Oh no! Poor Paypal!
Anyway... -
@BsCreativeLife @HeNeArXn It's sarcasm, from Top Gear
-
@HeNeArXn @BsCreativeLife It's not, it's dismissing Paypal as 'oh no'
-
From what you wrote, the receiver sends back the money and thus gains or loses no money – so why should i care for Paypal or scamers?

@HeNeArXn
Ah, that makes sense, and it's damaging for the receiver.

@syllopsium @HeNeArXn @BsCreativeLife if you think PayPal are the ones who get harmed by this scam, you do not understand how the scam works.
-
@voidandcozy @davx5app refund scams are one of the classic scam patterns, they can be done on basically any platform using throwaway accounts and/or alternative payment channels like Steam gift cards and there is no easy method of preventing them outside of scam awareness for potential victims

@aerofreak
I have to remember Paul. That's more fun.
