A few months ago, a client asked me to shave about €200 a month off our agreement. "We’re trying to cut back on expenses", he said, "to boost our cash flow." I was hesitant, but hey, I agreed.
Fast forward to this morning: one of his team members calls me asking for help because - and I quote - "both Claude and ChatGPT are giving me answers that just don't feel right."
I asked for a little context, only to find out they had upgraded to the top-tier plans for both AIs so they could "solve problems on their own without bothering me."
So, I dropped my client a line: we either revert to our original agreement, or we wrap up this collaboration effective immediately.
Asking me for a discount just to throw far more money at AI subscriptions - only to call me anyway when the bots fail - is, to say the least, a slap (or slop?) in the face.
@stefano Now I'm interested in the client's answer

@stefano Just to clarify the situation: you were contracted by them to manage $x and provide support if anything breaks;
they then think to themselves: hmm, lets us """AI""" to do the support for $x, dont have/want to pay the money for """AI'""" therefore ask you for the money to pay for it and, after that failed, are falling back to you providing support? -

It seems there is no hope with some people, too many people seem to be shouting about AI being the solution to all problems and a major job killer, reading your post I get the opposite impression. I hardly use AI, but then I don't need to look much up, if I do I find what i want with a search engine, BUT am usually looking for specific sources of information.
For example there was an interesting physics article in one of the papers, so in an effort to try and find more info I undertook a duckduckgo search and found info on phys.org and arxiv.org both to me useful and importantly more reliable sources, many of the items that came up were for other newspaper articles.
I sometimes feel I am some sort of exception to what others are doing.

️@stefano I guess, the last shreds of decency went down the drain due to this LLM slop bubble.

@zleap people think they can replace competence and experience with AI, without knowing what they're doing. This way, they're causing a lot of damage, because the AI will always have an apparently perfect solution. Apparently is the key, here.

@stefano A slop in the face for sure.
Have to remind users here to "not trouble shoot" with the chatt bots -

@PeterSommerlad I'll just probably interrupt the collaboration. I like to work in mutual trust. If this is broken, the collaboration is broken.

@stefano at this point slap a 3x price tag for your service for them to maximise your own cash flow.
You should label it like "AI Slop decluttering fee"
