On Linux forums I, a woman, would get ignored and disrespected. These days I ask my question, then switch to a fake account to give a completely wrong answer, then switch back again to thank them and praise their Linux knowledge. The experts show up right away. Sorted.

@fesshole I normally only stay on certain sides of the Linux community, mostly super queer ones, so I forgot how very non-progressive so much of it is.

@BenHM3 @fesshole y'know what I had no idea it was Ward Cunningham who this is credited to... for some reason I had it associated with Admiral Cunningham

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that. One would think that the glory penguin does not allow something like that. Forums in general are always a risky a place to ask questions. "to hell with you if you didn't read the 60 page FAQ and the 20 page 'where to start'". it's even worse if there is a just slightly similar question laying around somewhere on the board that has been answered. and " damn you" if you didnt put enough information like all of your sensitive details and logs in your question from the start.. i'm sad to hear that with all the obstacles that are already there, beeing a woman adds another one.

@fesshole One problem on those pages is definitely, that those persons who are able to solve all these problems are very smart with that stuff... but not with human interaction.. or patience.. or understanding the emotional side of a logical correction.. and that that incompetence maybe makes them even more toxic..

On ask Ubuntu, the highest rated answer is often out if date, but it can sometimes be a useful hint on how to search further.

@richlv @chronovore @fesshole example I ran into today was an answer to a question "misunderstanding of before in cypress." Person is visiting a page in a (before) call, first test passes others fail with a blank page.

Top answer "you are trying one test per command" which is an architectural decision unrelated to the question

Actual, correct answer "you have test isolation turned on"

I don't keep a list of encounters but it's something I run into often enough to remember as a "thing"

@fesshole Same with StackOverflow - that site is toxic. For all the complaints about AI - it gives me better results without the blatant misogyny. Not least - no mansplaining to me why my question is wrong. I will not miss its demise.

@fesshole If you don't know the answer, how do you know it's the wrong answer?

This is, of course, a version of the "a stopped clock is right twice a day" problem.

@fesshole That's really disappointing to hear.

@fesshole If you don't know the answer, how do you know it's the wrong answer?

This is, of course, a version of the "a stopped clock is right twice a day" problem.

@juliaclement @fesshole I don't know what the cure to cancer is, but I sure as hell know that it *isn't* topical chlorine gas. We've known that since WW1.
