As any cat will tell you, there is both something to be found, and there is nothing to found, until you finish digging the hole.
Larry is just demonstrating this by performance art, and the value of digging a hole as a creative endeavour. It is also commentary on capitalistic valuing of the worker. One works like a dog of the capitalist master, the other creates to be valued by all. -
