    If you want to log in on a Pixelfed server, you need a Pixelfed account on that server. You *cannot* sign in on a Pixelfed server with a Mastodon account.

    There is a button labelled "Sign in with Mastodon" on Pixelfed but it does not do what it claims to do. Every time you use this button, it creates a new totally separate Pixelfed account using info from your Mastodon profile.

    If you're comfortable using Github, you can vote to fix this at https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/issues/4606

      @FediTips Everyone should move away from Github. Free software should be made with free software

        @Stomata

        I agree, but that's a matter for the Pixelfed developers 🙂

            @FediTips I was also surprised that Mastodon accounts are automatically visible and follow-able on Pixelfed (for Bluesky, you need a "bridge"). Is this behaviour wanted?
            There might be people who don't want to appear on all fediverse-platforms automatically...

              @Ja_E_I_O_U

              Mastodon and Pixelfed are part of the same social network, the Fediverse. Many dozens of other platforms are too such as PeerTube, GoToSocial, BookWyrm etc. They all use a common technical standard to communicate between servers, which means people from different kinds of servers can follow and interact.

              Bluesky is not part of the Fediverse, that's why it cannot be communicated with directly.

                @Ja_E_I_O_U

                You can restrict who can see your post by choosing a non-public post visibility, which restricts who can see your posts (e.g. just your followers), more info at https://fedi.tips/who-can-see-my-posts-in-mastodon-how-do-i-send-dms-in-mastodon

                Mastodon and Pixelfed aren't two different networks, they're two different kinds of software that run on thousands of independent Fediverse servers. It's up to the owners of each server to decide which other servers it federates with. You can ask your server admin for more info about their choices.
