unsurprisingly, the EU Commission has been unwilling to extend that sort of deal to the UK; so once again (this time in the UK's inability to see that leaving the EU's regime for product testing might cause some issues for exporters) the EU by merely enforcing the Bloc's rules is seen as obstructive.
Err, no; we chose to leave!

All the subtlety of #RikMayall on full boost, with his afterburners lighting up the sky. Entitlement set to 300%, and self-awareness entirely absent.
#JohnBull, you left the #EU. You're not missed. Now put that thing back inside your trousers before the whole of Britannia goes on the #SexOffendersRegister.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/sep/24/uk-losing-billions-in-eu-trade-due-to-mismatched-product-rules#brexit "we chose to leave!" What is this "WE" of which you speak?
The idea that any referendum in the UK on any subject would produce a "desirable" outcome is flawed.
You can't be rational about these things in isolation. Posing the question is nearly impossible.
Q, Would you like to be poorer?
A. 100% NO!Even sinking small boats full of people half way across the channel would get hefty support. However most of the population would vote for the RNLI rescuing small dogs from a watery death and most Brits face to face with a drowning immigrant would try to help save.
Be careful what you ask for!

The UK foolishly voted to make itself a third country!

1. Join the club to get those advantages
2. Do not join the club and do not get those advantagesYou cannot look at the Scouts and say to yourself "I want to do all those amazing things with them" and then complain when they say "No, unless you join" because you refused to join!

@alexadeswift @ChrisMayLA6 The problem with the British is they not only want to have the advantages of the club but also have special deals as well. In other words they want all the scouts advantages but also to be paid for joining.

You might say that....

@ChrisMayLA6 My biggest fear in the latter part of my working life was whether machine translation would get too good.
I hadn't bargained for exceptionalism and #racism.
