@libreoffice I experienced that people blame #FOSS for "crashing" the OOXML file format and someone even named ODT a "bad file format" because his closed source software did not implement the open standard correctly. So thank you for this post which will help to better explain to users.

@libreoffice Wow, the situation's much worse than I thought. I thought differences in documents between MS Word and LibreOffice Writer were because OOXML was technically open, but the standard is far too complex for any other implementation to correctly implement. Didn't know about the proprietary OOXML Transitional extensions enabled by default for MS Office documents, and the proprietary fonts that make it impossible to create a free implementation without layout differences.
