#feditips question: is it possible to control the display size of images and videos on #Mastodon, other than by changing the size of the asset itself? It always look so gigantic. Alternative: give admins the ability to change the default display size? Nudge at @Mastodon@mstdn.social @Mastodon

The display size is down to whatever you're using to view Mastodon (for example the web interface or an app) and what situation you're in (viewing in timeline, viewing enlarged etc).

It's up to the interface or app creator to choose how to display media.

@FediTips thanks. I am not the only one to have noticed this, it is incomprehensible why the Github request was closed (there are many duplicates) https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/26218

Yeah, that issue would only cover the official web interface only, it wouldn't affect how other interfaces or apps display media.

By the way I was one of the people who submitted examples for why there needed to be an image height restriction It does cause havoc on the web interface if someone posts a really tall image

I think this one was closed because it was a duplicate of a similar issue at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/22993 which is still open.
