Vittu could be described as an even more verstile equivalent for the English language's fuck.

@eclectech In Japanese, まったく (mattaku) or まったくもう (mattakumou), which are usually translated "Honestly ... !" or "Good grief!"
From the root really; truly; entirely; completely; wholly; perfectly (according to jisho.org). Becomes FFS depending on the context or intonation.
[Not a native, but I've lived here for decades and have been on both the giving and receiving end of this word.]

I'm both relieved to get corroboration and a little disappointed that I didn't get to learn some secret, far more profane Japanese phrase that my parents wouldn't use in front of me.

But since Spanish is spoken by many, for media there is what is known as "neutral Spanish". Think of it like the transatlantic accent developed for English.
Anyway, probably the closest neutral Spanish version of this expression might be "con un [maldito] demonio", maldito for extra spiciness.
Meaning "by the [goddamn] devil". Not very rude, but thats TV for you.

'A dhiabhail' is great - I love the actual sound of that word. So soft for a hard curse. Am only now thinking of the similarity in Danish and Irish here. In Danish, invoking the devil is also a way of saying 'for fuck's sake'. 'For Satan' - the devil - a dhiabhail. 'For Satan' is a stronger curse in everyday Danish speech than just using 'fuck' in English (as people do too).

"Pero que carajos"
Carajo can feel very cathartic and if said with feeling. It can also be playful, depends on context and intonation.
Carajo is a word that you use to swear, but has no clear meaning. The oldest meaning is stick, euphemism for dick. But no one uses it in that way.
Another meaning is the high part of the mast on a boat (the crow's nest). You would be sent there as punishment (vete al carajo)

As a Welsh learner, I grapple with mutations (where the spelling of a word varies depending on grammatical factors).
Of all the letters in the Welsh alphabet, the only ones not involved in mutation at any point are FF and S, which always amuses me, as FFS is what I often think while trying to learn mutations.

@eclectech In German, much of this is regional; "high German" does not have much colour. What I can think of is from southern dialects:
"Kreuz, Birnbaum und Hollerstauden!" - "Cross, pear tree, and elder bushes!". I'm given to understand that the etymology is "start a religiously loaded curse, but then change it to something you won't have to bring up at confession". Mostly it's satisfying to yell.
"Himmel, Arsch und Wolkenbruch" (or "... und Zwirn" or "... und Schornsteinfeger") - "heaven, arse, and sudden torrential rain" / "... and sewing thread" / "... and chimney sweep". Again, just very yellable, etymology otherwise unknown and probably unnecessary.
"Heilandzack!" shortened from "Heilands Sakrament" – "Saviour's sacrament".

@jlink @eclectech well yes, of course there are expletives, but what's in widespread use is of limited creativity. Expressing the balance of rage and ennui inherent in a well-delivered "oh, for fucks' sake" is not the Hochdeutsch way. Pick one, express it precisely.

@eclectech In Dutch, and currently living in The Hague, I would say something like "Krijg nou de tering!", or in local dialect spelling: "Krèg nâh de tering!".
We Dutch love to curse in disease-related terms, this would wish TB on something/someone, but in a general meaning, it would be closest to FFS.

@kym @eclectech i think for fuck's sake is a bit more semantically different than какого хера, because the latter is more of a "what the fuck" type of exclamation, i.e. amazement or shock, meanwhile ffs is more "i am so done with this"
