@orange @zackwhittaker Think of it… a watch that records all sounds, glasses that record all you see, both concealed, working in tandem.
I can see some accessibility merit for it, but bottom-line: this stuff is dangerous and we shouldn't want it.
@mahryekuh I’ve wanted something like MS Recall at one point. But I didn’t build it, I didn’t distribute it, and though I didn’t think of the privacy implications, it’s because it was just wishful thinking (and also, nobody is paying me seven figures a year to think about those.) I don’t want it anymore.

If you don't understand them because they are speaking another language do not tell them that you are a foreigner.
Tell them that you are hard of hearing.
Then they will speak more slowly and loudly rather than calling you names and spitting on you.
This works well everywhere on earth, except Paris.

@zackwhittaker Am so glad I ditched my Apple Watch a year or so ago. Am now happy with a "dumb" watch that isn't connected to anything.
The next step is to leave the phone for only those times I need to interact with buying things or travel (where phones and apps now sadly dominate). I use to think progress was good but it turns out it wasn't, it was just building a gilded cage.

@lritter @zackwhittaker It's probably worth pointing out there's 2 surveillance features that were highlighted: Live Rewind which has that ~15 second of ring buffer. What is more concerning to me is the Siri Recap feature that "ambiently takes notes on your conversations throughout your day and creates high-level Apple Intelligence–generated summaries that you can use later to jog your memory, so you can stay present in the moment. Your summaries auto-delete after 7 days if you choose not to save them."
Through a business view, this is a problem because it's one more device by which sensitive things communicated orally can be more casually exfiltrated. From a just trying to live my life view and hanging around in sensitive third spaces, this is a privacy nightmare unless tech like the Deveillance Spectre I is able to properly counter this.
@sylvie @lritter @zackwhittaker given that most people cannot shut up about themselves if you show the least bit of interest, I can’t wait to spot acquaintances with one of these devices, engage them in conversation and prompt them to reveal any and everything that could be used for identity theft, saying their name out loud often, then remind them that they’ve just sent their entire family history to apple in minute detail.

The apple watches have been listening to everything for as long as i can remember. It's implied that the recordings are only used to notify the user of dangerously loud sounds and stuff like that, but the surveillance potential is immense -
