Omar Barghouti, co-founder of the BDS movement, says Britain must end all forms of support for Israel, including arms exports, trade and academic ties that may enable its occupation and crimes against Palestinians.
Barghouti described UK sanctions targeting individual settlers or extremist Israeli ministers as a “smoke and mirrors” distraction from Britain’s obligations under international law.
Citing the International Court of Justice’s rulings, he said the UK must stop enabling Israel and impose a full military embargo while ending economic, diplomatic and academic relations that facilitate the occupation.
“Where there is a risk, the obligation to prevent is triggered,” Barghouti said, arguing that preventing genocide requires states to end their complicity.
