@fdroidorg please don't. It was disappointing enough with Debian already:

    https://gitlab.com/fdroid/admin/-/work_items/699

One should never forget: the people who control access to #GenAI technology today, will tomorrow be the ones who exercise total control over #FOSS projects which embrace GenAI.

We can tell first hand, that setting up a policy for that is not done overnight. But you could at least "strongly discourage" until you have one, no, #FDroid ?

Is *anything* going to survive the Great #FOSS Apocalypse of 2026?

I recently made a decision to use Debian over Ubuntu for server installations, but now I'm not sure what to do. Ubuntu, being Debian based, is not an option to return to, and I don't know which other distributions to trust. It's going to take time to see how this all shakes out, I guess.

        @IzzyOnDroid

How the heck could any use of AI agents be considered “very careful” when AI agents do stuff like this: https://www.pcmag.com/news/vibe-coding-fiasco-replite-ai-agent-goes-rogue-deletes-company-database

@theron29 Let me just drop a few keywords on that: token price, how the LLMs are trained, how they direct/influence those using them.

Sorry, I won't write a book on that 🙈 Have to attend my maintenance tasks…

@IzzyOnDroid That is nice and all, but I'm sorry to say that that does not really explain on hot that shall "take over" the FOSS projects:

Why? E.g. because nobody is forcing FOSS developers into using AI; they are still free to develop their projects the way they want...

Also, by using AI for sw development those projects do not owe anything to anyone; they are free to start and/or stop using AI any way they want, any time...

On top of that, there are open LLM models available too...

          🤔

@theron29 Oh, drug addicts are also free to leave anytime. They just can't anymore.

And yes, one might differ between BigCorpLLM, and libre/local models. My stance goes against the former, not the latter.

@munter @GroupNebula563 not at that scale, no. Would you like this one? https://izzyondroid.org/docs/general/AppInclusionPolicy/#ai-policy (still not finalized – but you need to start from somewhere) Unfortunately has the side effect of many inclusion request to be declined, because of… well, genAI… 😢

@tjk Heh, are you an LLM? That is what Gemini said. Someone fed our policy to it for a summary, and that thing put as verdict, we'd be inconsequential – and should remove those exceptions as well 🤣

NB: Gemini totally missed the point. What you do in your sphere, is outside our jurisdiction – and not for us to say. That policy represents OUR house rules, not yours. So it's about what enters OUR house – not what you served as side dish in yours. We might not like it, but we're not your judges.

@IzzyOnDroid i don't understand your response. I don't use LLMs. I use your repos (thank you!) and I think it'd be better to exclude any work done with AI. I was glad to see your policy forbidding them for code, but I'd like even more if it were stronger, without the exceptions.

This is what I know of, at present:
                            https://mastodon.online/@Brett_E_Carlock/117176296434543250

They all share the now-tainted kernel and many other libraries, but some improvement is better than none.
