    @jonsnow

I have never used OneDrive. Its sad little icon sits in my system tray with a sad line drawn through its sad, gray outline.

The very idea of me putting my data onto Microsoft's server is a laugh.

No. Hard no. Forever and ever amen.

@troy_frizzell @jonsnow Hint: Ctrl+Shift+Esc (to open Task Manager), then go to Startup tab (the speedometer symbol), and disable OneDrive startup there.

@jonsnow Windows behaves from day to day more like a data stealing malware.
@prahou drawing fits very nicely to those news:

@jonsnow @ReggieHere I assume using windows is like being in an abusive relationship, and similar reasons apply in regards to why people don't leave?

@greenpete @jonsnow @ReggieHere it’s easier to not change. The inertia of staying is higher than learning how to do all the Linux things.

IMHO it would take a widely accessible and cheap machine with Linux preinstalled along with basic programs that are windows equivalent to have people move over. Even then that’s friction, so people stay.

Your data, including the images, are the property of the companies to which you voluntarily provide them by using Windows or Chrome OS.

If you don't want this, you have to stay away from their products.

The only good way to be rid of this is to delete the exe and the shortcut with group policy.

@jonsnow If you or anyone continues to use Windows following the already widespread information of how Microsoft steals your data and uses it for their own financial gain, regardless of it's impact on you, you simply must not care about your personal privacy!

OneDrive is one of the most insidious pieces of spyware crap that MS forces people to use without them even realising.

I understand if people find the idea of switching to Linux intimidating or don't want to do that.

But maybe they could switch to Mac? I haven't heard of Apple doing near as much privacy-invading stuff as Microsoft. I think at this point people really need to get off of Windows, one way or another.

@jonsnow everyone should get off windows, but if you can't we need a whole lot of ai poison pictures that people can put in their photo folder. Use up their space and screw with their training.

I understand if people find the idea of switching to Linux intimidating or don't want to do that.

But maybe they could switch to Mac? I haven't heard of Apple doing near as much privacy-invading stuff as Microsoft. I think at this point people really need to get off of Windows, one way or another.

Modern Linuxes are every bit as easy to use as Windows or Apple. Yes some things work differently and take some getting used to, but OTOH much less obfuscation. You can see how everything works, and the Internet is your manual.

Most important sentence in the linked article is the last one:

"If you want to block the OneDrive sync client from installing OneDrive Photos, you’ll need to remove OneDrive entirely from Settings > Installed apps."

I have never used OneDrive. Its sad little icon sits in my system tray with a sad line drawn through its sad, gray outline.

The very idea of me putting my data onto Microsoft's server is a laugh.

No. Hard no. Forever and ever amen.

@troy_frizzell @jonsnow You should uninstall it. Otherwise it's too easily to accidentally click something and wind up with all of your private data exfiltrated to their servers. 😱

Yes of course, but I think the biggest issue for many is that you have to install it yourself.

I know the actual installation is easy but things like having to decide which distro and DE or WM to use, make a bootable USB and boot from it, possibly needing to get into the BIOS and disable UEFI, etc. are big obstacles for average users.

Organizing more community Linux install fests/parties would help, where people can bring in a computer and have experts there helping them with all that and basic setup or troubleshooting.
