@markwyner @libreoffice For absolute transparency, they allow coding agent code submissions. But, the no ai features promise is still to be commended

@somekindofgarf @markwyner Well, we discourage code submissions that use LLMs, and require all contributors to be able to explain their changes. LLM contributions are not permitted from students or people being mentored in the project.

@markwyner @libreoffice yes. After a long time of havering, as soon as duckduckgo brought out their 'no AI' version I was on it. If I used an office suite at all I'd be onto libre too.

OK well, as far as I can remember, I haven't yet encountered any use of AI that requires AI. -

First, @libreoffice is much more than a text editor.
Second, it's not just that we do not need AI in an office suite. We actively do not want a third party to rummage through my private documents. -

@markwyner @libreoffice 1M downloads for MS OfficePay365-24-7 might be a rounding error.... But 1M *new* downloads for an alternative office suite that does NOT spend BILLIONS in advertisement and does NOT have locked dependent entities the size of US Govt is kind of a big deal.
Plus, those 1M new users usually never go back to MS stuff.

@markwyner @libreoffice Now they just need to expel all the "AI" generated code they've ingested.

@markwyner @libreoffice So much nicer on my Mac than MS Office. I'm not a fan of word processing software, but when you need it, you need it, and LibreOffice Writer did what I needed it to do.
