→ https://www.davidrevoy.com/article1178/license-update-ai-derivation-prohibited-on-all-my-art-lore-stories-and-comics@davidrevoy Edited: I was trapped by the title which is inclined to believe you adopted an esoteric copyright license, which in case it would not block who we intend to block, as LLM slop do not fall in copyright.
That's a new trend: tending to all rights reserved, or some restrictions reserved in the hope to stop LLM, but we are just stopping us from collaborating and LLM will grow anyway, and we lose.
Glad you are using moral rights https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_rights Thanks! Interesting.

If I was making garbage of someone's work, I'd just keep it to myself, or sell it without notice if I had no ethics.

→ https://www.davidrevoy.com/article1178/license-update-ai-derivation-prohibited-on-all-my-art-lore-stories-and-comics@davidrevoy I wonder how many of us chose Creative Common licenses with the obvious thinking that those licenses would forbid AI use?
-
@dajb @poleguy @cwebber @davidrevoy CC-BY does not allow AI training use because such use does not preserve attribution. It's great to be explicit about that, but there is no "the old license allowed it" loophole here.
@dalias @poleguy @cwebber @davidrevoy no
If only it were that simple:
"CC licenses apply only when copyright permission is required. If exceptions or limitations apply, then the CC license terms don’t apply."

@n1xnx @f4grx @h5e @davidrevoy if you live in the UK it's fine if you do that with pigs, so long you are part of the political class
Obviously, pig having sex with pig is nothing to be frowned upon.

-
@f4grx @davidrevoy why do people even *do* that??
“hey artist i like your work anyway i used a machine to make it better maybe you’ll like it” seems like a very deranged thing to do and yet
@h5e @f4grx @davidrevoy that “better” is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Whatever happened to respecting art and ideas? I can understand wanting to see a ‘finished’ version of the sketch in the example, but that’s not up to me or a machine to do so. Just leave it to the imagination - of which AI bros have none (imho)
-
@davidrevoy@framapiaf.org
Consider to also add an explicit "training fee". Something like: you can use any of my images for generative AI training for 10€ each pixel.@giacomo @davidrevoy And add a "generation fee" of €10 per pixel training data used per generation

@arfisk Thank you, yes, I'm a follower of the CC blog. I'm also often reacting to their post on mastodon, or alerting them since 2022/2023 to handle the situation, but they never reply or interact.
Sadly, I feel them pretty disconnected from the "artist and content creators" right now on Internet. I lost hope in them.
-
@davidrevoy Why would someone look at a bunch of comics about how much you hate AI and think that sending you AI clones of those comics was a good idea?
My guess: They don't think you'll like it, they think you're owned. See? This AI you hate so much can make comics as well as you can! (It can't.)
The other "offers" of course probably had AI do the work of deciding to e-mail you and everything, so whatever humans were involved probably neither knew nor cared. Spam casts a wide net after all.
@Linebyline To my surprise, the ones who are sending me this, often think they are "helping", a bit like when someone show the usage of fire to cavemen. Same type of energy, they think I'm not smart as them to know how to use AI, so they offer their help...

Please have a proper lawyer with copyright/licensing experience look at your idea of how to license your comics in the future.
I am pretty sure you cannot legally use a "CC-something" with an additional "no AI" clause, because then the folks behind the CC licensing might send you a cease and desist letter, since they don't approve of a CC-but-no-AI-use license just yet.
You will probably have to come up with an entire license text of your own, and call it something like the David-Revoy-no-AI-License.
@farbenstau Having a proper lawyer is not in my budget, and so, not in my options unfortunately.
I check: 600€ per appointments, first one to meet and frame the issue, then two more for work in progress, and even more then to redact the paper or something. I don't have ~3000€ to invest on this, and one afternoon per week to take the car to the closest city and wait into the desk of a lawyer.
Right now, just drawing the line publicly and stamping it on my art might be enough to dissuade usage.

@davidrevoy WTF? Over here, the initial meetup is usually around 150-250€ …
Also, are there no online services where you can consult with an attorney, is that not legal in your country?
