      Your phone breaks. Your washing machine gives up. Somehow, buying new seems cheaper than repairing.

      The EU is making the Right to Repair the new standard in Europe.

      ✅Repairs must be offered even after your warranty ends
      🔧Parts must be available after the model is no longer sold
      📅Choose repair under warranty and get an extra year of legal coverage
      📍An EU platform will help you find local repair shops and fair prices

      Less waste, more repairs. Good for your wallet, even better for the planet.

      @EUCommission
      Practically that would mean that parts that weren't available to repair my telephone last year should be available now?

      I had a broken screen and the FaceID module was thrown out with the old one, in went the new - without that module.

      Or does this only apply to products being introduced in the market, and from now on?

                    @EUCommission sometimes repairing and improving longetivity also means being able to install your own software.

                    It would be great if the EU could forbid locking boot loaders of general purpose computing devices like smart phones, tablets, and laptops.

                    While we are at it, also require an alternative to Google/Apple remote attestation, so that we can still run our apps on repaired devices, or even better, European devices like Jolla's Sailfish OS phones.

                      @EUCommission

                      May I ask 2 questions please?

                      * Have you considered many EU citizen live on an island? So, repair itself might become cheaper, but who is going to pay for the costs for the technician? Especially when it's still under warranty.
                      We bought a new laundry machine, although the broken one was still under warranty. But the costs for a technician was almost as high as a new one. New one came in 3 days. Technician and parts would have been in about 10 days ...

                      Again: please consider while making your rules and regulations that not everybody in the EU live at the same circumstances, but those EU citizens too do have the same rights!

                      2nd: when is there going to be a rule like the c-to-c for phones /chargers for other standard things? Most of those are made in plastic, some even never used because the customer uses/puts the devise/whatever on another possible way.
                      I have made a list, if you are interested. That would make a lot less garbage in the world.

                          @EUCommission why did you not take a washing machine as an exsample? please explain how it works? You clearly put an end to Washing machines under 300 Euro. Or will my friendly #DHL take it to the repair shop? You know that im home rpair already charge for just showing up? haha well, congratulations for choosing a phone as exsample, a laptop would already be near impossible (if you can use a calculator)

                                @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu what the hell is this flowchart?

                                let's say i hate money. then, it reads:

                                should i toss my broken tech? a bit!

                                ??? that's not the correct shaped answer to that question.

                                "am I a billionaire" with no/maybe? billionaires don't care about right to repair; they can easily afford to get a new one . why are they even on this chart. what kind of answer is "maybe". and why is the option of going to a "cheap" repair shop under this non-negative answer to billionaire? do non-billionaires not get to go to a repair shop? do poor people have to repair it themselves, with their own personal expertise?

                                also, the remaining two branches, while decent to demonstrate the intent here for how to reduce waste.... also are not shaped like "should i toss my broken tech?" . none of the answers are shaped like that.. the question should read more like "what to do with broken tech?" or just "my tech is broken". then, the "repair it"/"fix it" branches make sense.

                                both of those branches make sense in isolation but together are strange because repairing something and fixing it is the same thing!!! those words are synonyms!!! the warranty branch should specify "manufacturer repairs it for free + 1 year of warranty" and the other branch should be "buy parts up to 10 years and repair it yourself". the "billionaire" question should say "do you have tech repair knowledge?" and the other branch should say "take it to a repair shop, who will buy the parts and fix it for you".

                                some others have pointed this out, and i too will ask: is this AI-generated?? because this sure smells like slop. it is not very coherent.

                                  There are already more alternatives for phones with alternative OS besides Jolla. Nothing for example.

                                  @Catha @EUCommission Nothing phones use Google Android (with system-level Play Services, etc.). Some Nothing Phones have unlockable boot loaders though, like Fairphone and Google Pixel.

                                  However, if you install non-GMS Google Android, you are in for an increasing amount of pain, since more and more apps start using Google Play Integrity. E.g. some banks, the Volkswagen app, and ironically the EUDI Wallet reference implementation. Yes, you cannot use the EU wallet on a phone with an non-US OS!
