@imaginaryuncle welcome! I'd love to hear more about your read the world challenge, I am doing similar, although no where as concentrated as you! I made several reading challenges this year, but the only one I've kept to 💯 is rereading Terry Pratchett, one a month.
I've just started The Rabbit Factor by Antti Tuomainen - really liking it so far!

@peatbogfaery hello to a fellow reader! I decided to do this challenge after feeling sort of burnt out and it’s been fortifying. I’ll link my tracker in my profile if you’re interested and I’ll also post about the books I read for the challenge from now on. I’ll have to check out The Rabbit Factor!

@imaginaryuncle I enjoy Mastodon when I do, but it's so difficult for me to navigate. Hope you find something amazing!

Hi! I’m new here. I’ve tried Mastodon a couple times but maybe third time’s the charm! I have become increasingly disillusioned by mainstream social media and I’m searching for ways to connect with other people outside of an algorithm.

I teach high school English and I read a lot. Currently at book 92 of a read around the world project. I was a teen in the 90s and still trying to keep my grunge phase alive. I love art and film too.

Hope to meet some likeminded people!

          welcome!
I find a lot of people through just following hashtags. Oh and I also make art and repost art stuff and interesting things... 🙂

my favorite horror film is The Haunting (1963) [I don't like inferior remakes], based on the Shirley Jackson book: The Haunting of Hill House (love Shirley Jackson)
I did quite enjoy The Shining.

Remember, you can get a direct link to any post, an "http" one that people can open in their browsers. (How to get it depends on what app you're using. For me it's on the posts "..." menu.)

I'll send them, (usually pictures of owls), to friends who aren't on Mastodon. I consider it part of a long-term strategy to get them over here. 😁

@imaginaryuncle Ooooh, the Shining is a good choice! I really like that one, among other Kubrick films.

Personally my favourite film is Stalker, I find it unbelivably interesting in concept and execution. Tarkovsky's other films are excellent too.

@imaginaryuncle Hi Liz! I like to track my reading via Bookwyrm - and since that project is federated via ActivityPub, you could follow Bookwyrm users via your Mastodon accounts. (Or create your own Bookwyrm account, of course.) The tricky bit would be to find Bookwyrm users that are interesting for you.
(My apologies if you already know all of that.)

@JonasJRichter I track on StoryGraph now and it’s been ok but I don’t really have friends on it. I should check out Bookwyrm! I tried out Fable when a friend recommended it but it’s so full of teens.

@imaginaryuncle Hi Liz! I’m working as an auditor and love to listen to music, currently prefer dub and reggae - and some thrash metal, shouldn’t be boring…
I was a teen/teen in the 80s, still trying to keep my punk/ska phase alive and, as a boomer, love my analog life but enjoy exchanging opinions in the fediverse, too.
By the way, I’m not a native English speaker, so I beg your pardon for all the mistakes you’ll find in my posts 😱

@imaginaryuncle That's awesome! I know from my music exploits there are a ton of countries with hardly any publishing industry, so that will be interesting. 🙂

For music, you actually have the amazing seach feature of the site Discogs, which lists practically all releases of music ever made, and you can filter it very granually. For instance, I can find all music released on CD in Nepal in the 1990s:

                                  https://www.discogs.com/de/search?type=all&format_name_exact=CD&country_exact=Nepal&decade=1990

Is there something similar for books?

Sounds like a fun idea to read around the world. Getting it organized has been my roadblock. And getting distracted by shiny objects (books).

Just in case you haven't seen and it might be helpful in your reading around the world.
Scallydandling about the books (utube) did a series on it, might be a good place for inspiration if a country is stumping your efforts. The video below is from 5 yrs ago.

@imaginaryuncle Going by your profile, it sounds like you’re into paper. Is it just a personal thing or are you going pen-to-paper in class as well? I’m asking because I am strongly considering the latter this coming semester.
