If all you have a hammer, then everything looks like a nail. But if all you have is a screwdriver or a wrench, this doesn't necessarily mean that everything looks like a screw or a bolt, because either of those items can be used as an improvised hammer. Also if you have two wrenches you can break a padlock without needing boltcutters. I'm not actually sure what the moral here is

@mcc I like the way you express it. In a way, any tool has a purpose, depending on how you use it. Its about being wise and possessing wisdom.

An old trick I learned early in my maintenance career, a hammer can open a lock. And working nightshift, one learns to become a locksmith. We have all access master keys, but locks are ticklish...

If you have a hammer, you can hold it by the heavy metal part, and then everything starts looking like a huge stone block which needs to be nudged into place.

@benroyce My dad loves picking up cheap flea market tools, and he’s given me a couple of those putty knives that have a tiny hammer on the handle end. They also have a flip-out Phillips bit, so you can effectively deal with any drywall nail/screw pops. I’m not sure I’d want to drive in a real nail with that tool though!

Yes, yes, very true, but consider this: if you have a hammer and a stopwatch, you have an altimeter.

If you have a hammer and a long rope (and patience), you can measure the planet's rotation and your latitude.

If you have a hammer and a field, you have a track-and-field sport.

If you have a hammer and a stack of paper, you can turn on a fan with impunity.

If you... wait, what were you saying about padlocks?

@benroyce My dad loves picking up cheap flea market tools, and he’s given me a couple of those putty knives that have a tiny hammer on the handle end. They also have a flip-out Phillips bit, so you can effectively deal with any drywall nail/screw pops. I’m not sure I’d want to drive in a real nail with that tool though!
