    Thanks to everyone here who recommended LibreOffice for my MacBookAir (now that Microsoft have disabled my old version of MSWord).

    I've downloaded it, used it for a couple of things (very instinctive interface) and have donated to the Document Foundation for the light use I will make of it in the future.

    @ChrisMayLA6 Though I’ve now moved to an online equivalent of #LibreOffice - which is not as good, IMHO, LibreOffice served me very well for many years as did its twin and semi predecessor OpenOffice. I’ve no idea why anyone should spend money on #Word! You’ll be fine 🙂

      @ChrisMayLA6

      Ive been using libre office for years but always kept a copy of ms office for "work" related things like invoice forms which couldn't afford to go wrong.

      Last year I finally removed ms office and now only use libreoffice on macos.

      So far nothing has gone wrong working with others who use ms office formats. Touch wood!

      It's open source so I have no right to demand, but I do gently suggest the project invests in UX and UI design.

        LibreOffice is good at what it does, in spite of being held back by having to be docx-compatible. I always preferred to use LaTeX for my writing, but LibreOffice handled the mail attachments people threw at me. Today, I just tell people "I don't have MS Word, sorry" and that actually works now...

        BTW LibreOffice works fine on Linux. Probably even better than on Windows or Mac, as it is the platform of choice for the devs. FYI

          @ChrisMayLA6 I'm just baffled by the fact that MS can 'disable' programs on a MAC...like wtf? I know plenty of older Windows machines still running Office '10

            Important is to only edit in ODT. Save ann extra copy in Word 2007+ docx format for anything / anybody needing it. Some programs don't process docx styles from Office 365 latest docx properly.
            I switched from MS Office in about 2015 while still on Windows. I'd used it since Word 2.0a on Win3.1

              Some people complain that the interface of LibreOffice looks old. However, it is quite easy to change the interface to "ribbon", which is the same style as Microsoft Office. https://itsfoss.com/libreoffice-ribbon-interface/

                  @ChrisMayLA6 Yay! I’ve been using it for a few years now, and it does the job. I added the Zotero plugin for citations and it works great. The only clunky module is the PowerPoint. I still use it but it does some silly things.

                    @ChrisMayLA6 I currently use OnlyOffice on my Mac because I don't like LibreOffice review&comment interface.

                      I've been a happy LibreOffice user for years. Another advantage to using it, is that the menus don't change on a whim with every version release... unlike Microsoft. Once you learn it, you know it.
