Do you want help with using Mastodon or the wider Fediverse?
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions about using this place! There's no such thing as a silly question, it's fine to ask about anything however simple.
I'm especially keen to help new or non-technical people on here
And yes I am a human being, I don't use AIs!(Alternatively, you can browse my website at https://fedi.tips which has lots of easy-to-understand help and advice.)

When I was opening this account, I found a website that listed whether an instance is Fedipact, whether it's open for newcomers, and what the current population is.
Do you know where I can find that? I wanted to share it with someone today and couldn't find it.
To be extra clear, it's not any of these places:
https://fedipact.veganism.social/
Again the 3 criteria: Fedipact, open, population

If you're trying to recommend instances for new people to join, I would strongly recommend not using uncurated server lists that feature massive numbers of servers. They aren't doing any basic checks or requirements for the servers they list
It would be a lot safer and more reliable to use https://fedi.garden or https://joinmastodon.org/servers which have minimum requirements (e.g. https://fedi.garden/about-this-site ).
All the instances listed on fedi.garden have defederated Threads.

I am wondering if you meant https://fedidb.com which used to list Fedipact status but no longer does.
However, the FediPact status doesn't necessarily help as there are many instances which have defederated Threads without actually adding their names to the FediPact list.
The only way to really be sure about Threads defederation is to try searching for a Threads account like AT zuck AT threads dot net on the instance website.

@FediTips Hi! I'm very new to the Fediverse, and I'm sure this is an eye roll inducing question but I'm going to ask it anyway. How do I know which app to choose, or whether to use an app or the server website? What are the pros and cons?

Hi!
Sorry I am so late in replying! And definitely NOT an eye roll question!
Which app you use really depends on personal needs and taste. Most of them are free to use or at least free to try, so the most reliable thing to do is give several methods a go.
I've tried to go over the main options in this article: https://fedi.tips/which-apps-can-i-use-should-i-use-the-official-app-or-a-third-party-app
If you want help with anything specific feel free to ask
