But banning kids from social media is a lazy and counterproductive approach to solving the real problem, which is better addressed through robust privacy laws and more third spaces for kids to safely spend time in.

People say they want to stop predatory algorithms and stuff but the only real way to do that is by destroying the data harvesting and data brokers themselves.

@gwynnion I understand your point about protecting children online. I am from Gaza, where children face deeper struggles every day — fear, displacement, hunger, and losing their homes. I hope the world can protect children from all forms of harm, both online and in their real lives.

Yeah they fully support these laws because flagging certain people requires persistent metadata about those people - how else will they know they're inappropriate - and using that to map more linked meta data they can then sell. Legal license to require more information that's consistent and builds better profiles for advertisement? Absolutely!It doesn't matter if the kids lie as long as the links are consistent. So that's their entire motive.
