@benroyce I feel so desperately sorry for this man.
-
@benroyce @clintruin @quizzicus Thanks, Ben.
I think about the GOP primary in Minnesota leading up to the 2016 Presidential election. The voters voted:
1. Rubio
2. Cruz
3. TrumpIf voters in other states had chosen similarly, we wouldn't be dealing with this particular noxiousness.
Civics matter. Voting matters.

@JackMexa4 @benroyce never thought an actor-turned-president could earn my respect but here we are

@clintruin @benroyce @quizzicus Not sure if you saw the news but they divorced 20 years ago.
-
@benroyce Take the gloves off. Russia’s were off from the beginning. Take them out. Don’t be nice. Hit hard while the can.

@pmonks @benroyce @quizzicus
My mistake. -
@clintruin @benroyce @quizzicus If the options are Newsom and the next MAGA cult leader then that course of action would mean that you’re fine with the MAGA cult leader. Is that really your intent?
-
@benroyce @quizzicus
"fuck Newsom. but fuck the GOP more. and we better fucking show up in the primaries so it's not Newsom. if we don't, we don't really care about trans people"
-
@clintruin @benroyce @quizzicus Which means you’re comfortable for someone far worse in power. You seem to lack understanding of how the US electoral system functions.
-
@clintruin @benroyce @quizzicus Ah that explains your lack of understanding of the US electoral system. It is vastly different (and inferior) to more modern systems such as Canada’s.
-
@clintruin @benroyce @quizzicus As I said earlier - no candidate is perfect. I didn’t vote for Biden in the primary, but I held my nose and voted for him in the general because he was the best of a bad lot of options. That’s usually how voting works - picking the least bad candidate, despite misgivings.
This toxic idealism you and the person you’re quoting are expressing is part of how we got Trump. Twice.
-
@benroyce
Here's a look at that deal by Paul Krugman and what it really means:

@clintruin @benroyce @quizzicus My apologies - I thought I was engaging with an adult.
-
"Oh gee okay"
That's it?
Do you *want* GOP in power killing trans people? Or do you genuinely fail to make the connection between your intentions and the real world effects of your intentions?
Nevermind: fuck Newsom. So you're voting in the primaries against him
Right?
Answer that question

Ben, I already did. -
@benroyce @pmonks @quizzicus
then...(and I mean this in the nicest possible way--seriously, no sarcasm)...you have a very short memory. It's okay. So do I. And I know you have many conversations, so I'm not taking it personally. -
@benroyce this is an excuse to seize SpaceX

@JackMexa4 @benroyce Zelensky isn't a 'Nazi', but people should critize the Ukrainian government for making the leaders of the OUN/UPA to national heroes. They were Nazis, they slaughtered Jews and Poles before the real Nazis came along and then they helped the Nazis in the Holocaust.
There are also many neo-Nazis in the Ukrainian forces. Let's not belittle ourselves in ignoring this. It's a real problem.
The Ukrainian idoliazation of former OUN/UPA guys is shameful.

@JackMexa4 @benroyce Right now, Ukraine has more important problems, obviously, but we should be critically about everybody if they're neo-Nazis themselve or they're idolializing former Nazis from the OUN/UPA..
Having said this, Zelensky isn't a Nazi, but the question of Nazism will come up in the future. Espacially when Zelensky isn't the president anymore..
-
@JackMexa4 @benroyce Yeah, of course, but for this reason we should be able to critize Zelensky for going along with the Ukrainian admiration of the Nazis in the OUN/UPA. It's just wrong.
He shouldn't do something like this:
In Ukraine, a Divisive 20th-Century Figure Comes Home
Andriy Melnyk, criticized as a Nazi collaborator and lionized as an anti-Soviet resistance leader, was given state honors for his reburial near Kyiv.

@JackMexa4 @benroyce there's a reason you have seen accusations but no proof...
