Every time I decide to post a thread to Mastodon, I'm hit with a new wave of mansplaining.

Speaking as someone who would like to help, it seems Mastodon has a hole here. I believe it was @mekkaokereke who pointed out that shitty people say shitty (racist) things in his replies, but people like me never see them because these trolls tag their replies as 'Only for my followers.'
Many people would happily counter this sort of thing, but we never see it.
Suggestions?
@elasticsoul @emilymbender @mekkaokereke @Gargron my suggestion is to start calling the things with their name and move from the big tech culture of centralization to the grassroots culture of digital communities. There you can’t speak of “Mastodon” like you speak of Twitter, as a monolithic entity with its own culture, that #Mastodon is a software used by thousands of communities with thousands of policies and “local cultures”.

@emilymbender I don't think it's just you: my experience of Mastodon is that it can be stereotyped as mansplaining German linux nerds (with a secondary population of queer trans furry sysadmins).
At least we don't seem to have any Nazi billionaires (except for that Trump Guy running his own fork called truth.something) …

@Gargron I wonder if the automatic mentioning fill out could be turned off.
There are so often so many comments who are not even meant to be directed to the original author of a toot. Or they were written with not really believing it really reaches the person addressed (as it is on other networks).
But as the author got filled out without any questioning people believe it should be this way and leave it there not thinking how annoying it is to be mentioned without really being addressed.
So could you please turn off the auto-fill-mentioning?
So we get a healthier selection of toots that are really for us on purpose? Because we are only addressed if people really want to address us?
it's still possible to look at all the comments on purpose anyway... -

@emilymbender I absolutely adore threads like this! I ban everyone in them -- both the mansplainers and the ones complaining about mansplaining

@ZDL @emilymbender did they started their replies with "let me explain to you because you have a vagina" or you just assumed that?
I previously scrolled trough that post, I cannot go back now because the Professor has blocked me, but people were just sharing their own experiences, that's all.
If you are an expert in an area doesn't mean that other people cannot share an experience or have an opinion in the area.

I didn't see the exact posts you were referring to but so I may be wrong, but generally the idea of posting in response to someone is to produce a conversation, which many consider to be the goal of social medias.
@lienrag my friend, allow me to remark on two aspects of your post:
1) Not every post needs a response, and not every response is useful
2) “media” is already plural -
