🤯 Last year a #Meta Lobbyist became a new head of the #Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC). Today, the former head of the DPC announced that she is now working for MHC - the Irish law firm for Meta that was previously defending Meta before the #DPC in #GPDR cases - basically a 360° seat swap between the Irish regulator and Meta. This is not just extreme #CorporateCapture of a regulator and makes #Ireland a laughing stock within the EU, but moves like this also undermine any public...

@maxschrems what's new, this is why left wing parties if they are really left wing must never use any political consultants.

@maxschrems initially I was like, you mean a 180° seat swap, not 360°, right? But then read it again, it really does sound like 360°.

@maxschrems 360° mean she didn't change her direction ...
half turn = 180°

@Su_G @maxschrems
I don't think that there is a "long enough" in cases like that. Just decoupling it temporal ist not enough. Either you are for the people or against them , for public wellfare or for some company's wellfare. -

@maxschrems You are confusing cause and effect. The DPC is not maliciously sabotaging GDPR because it made a bad hire. It made that hire because the Irish government's economic policy is to appeal to multinationals so they headquarter there, and sabotaging GDPR is a means to that end.

It's amazing how oodles of cash can assuage a guilty conscience.

@lexinova @maxschrems I think it's 2 x 180, which would add up

@T_X @maxschrems not really since she never changed course, only lied like if she had.

@maxschrems she did a couple of years in comreg too. Where there, even by the standards of comreg commissioners she was clumsy & ineffective.
Comreg is another of Ireland's truly useless regulators.
Regulatory capture was baked in from it's very first days as ODTR.Her predecessor in comreg is now chair of
Ireland's new media regulator.

@maxschrems I read the picture first and thought it was satire post over extreme corporate blandness, using comletely generic campany names. Apparently it wasn't.
