@grob if we're being pedantic here, there may be people who know how to mute your boosts, but choose not to, and — this message will still reach them ☝️🤓

@mo I probably couldn't fathom people knowing how to _and_ not having muted my excessive boosting

If you're following someone who posts interesting stuff but boosts way too often, you can mute just their boosts:

        1. Go to the account's profile page
        2. Click the ⋯ button
        3. Click "Hide Boosts"

Their own posts will continue appearing in your timeline as normal, but their boosts won't.

I misinterpreted what that option was for...

Is there a way to suppress multiple boosts of the same post and only show it once?

@FediTips This is really useful. It takes a bit of work to keep what you see on M like messages from friends, instead of just a "feed", and this trick helps.

I'd like to hide stuff *I* boosted. I saw it, I boosted it. Why do I need to see my own boost (or anyone else's boost of the exact same link or toot) *again*? Saw it, liked it (probably), boosted it - for me, I'm done with it.

As a notoriously prolific Mastodon booster, I for one, applaud your publication of this one simple trick for keeping boosts from specific people to a reasonable level in one's feed.
I wouldn't want people to block me 4 being a boostalotopotamus, and withbTHIS tip, they won't need to.
Also, friends know that friends boost mastodon posts to be friendly and to have them seen, too.

I realise this isn't exactly the same thing, but there's a related feature which is on by default where Mastodon hides boosts if you have seen them before.

However, the feature allows boosts to repeat if 40 other posts have flowed through your timeline. This worked ok back in the 2010s when it was really quiet on here, but the number is too low nowadays.

Apparently this number is going to be increased in a future update, so it should further reduce the amount of repeats.

Ahh okay... that might indeed do things differently.

FWIW I've tried to have a quick look at Akkoma's documentation and issues but couldn't find out how it handles repeated boosts. Maybe someone involved with the project could help?

If you're following someone who posts interesting stuff but boosts way too often, you can mute just their boosts:

                                    1. Go to the account's profile page
                                    2. Click the ⋯ button
                                    3. Click "Hide Boosts"

Their own posts will continue appearing in your timeline as normal, but their boosts won't.

Its a very useful feature, especially for those who like to boost every single post in a forty toot thread, overwhelming my timeline and making me scroll and scroll to get past something they may be interested in but I'm not.

@FediTips Even more useful to me would be 'hide self-boosts'. As well as the 'hide posts I have already boosted' mentioned upthread. Anyone know a way to configure this, or if its in a feature request list somewhere?

                                        @anthill

The nearest issue for this is https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/21632 and that mentions the Pachli third party app allows hiding self-boosts.

(BTW the description in the issue of why self-boosts happen is a bit misleading or at least incomplete. Usually self-boosts on the Fediverse are done due to the chronological timeline, so that people can reach followers in other time zones. Some followers may be asleep at the time of the original posting and never see them without self-boosts.)

@FediTips Can I also hide "public replies to self" for people posting daily essays that I _might_ want to read, but not want them to flood my Home feed?
