Usually a genAI header has me bounce but I know & respect Mark Ritson's work & this pair of articles illuminates that this isn't a "both sides" issue at all.

Both written with equal rigor, the articles show very clearly what a bad case the corporate side has. Ignoring ethics is, at its "best", an aversion strategy - which, while common, is a shitty way of doing business. It's just failing slowly & irresponsibly.

@jwcph are there a load of clamouring voices demanding that brands take a side? Everyone knows brand activism is just hollow gestures- what I see are people demanding that companies that do business with ICE stop or business leaders stop chumming about with fascists but that’s a different matter entirely

@iain There isn't a lot of clamoring voices - but there's a shit-ton of evidence that consumers low-key care & make decisions based on perceptions & gut feelings related to responsibility etc.
Hunkering down & hoping it blows over may "work", in the sense that it doesn't usually (!) cause an instant run or bankruptcy, but it most certainly doesn't promote growth, making the choice even more ridiculous considering how holy growth is in the very same corporate culture.
