    @evacide This awful future demands that we return to a system of punishments from prehistory. No, not stoning and burning, those are perversions of so-called civilization.

    I mean shunning, exile.

      @GhostOnTheHalfShell @evacide I was thinking more like for the global criminals. Musk: it would be a terrible mistake to guillotine him. Morally wrong, but also not a just or poetic punishment. Just take away every cent, all his power, and send him out into the world alone. Literally nobody would speak to him. I can guarantee you today there would be no more offspring

        @evacide “Moye [attorney for plaintiff(s)] added that many of the prompts took place the night before Autenrieth was deposed as an expert witness.”

        Incredible.

          I think I’m way ahead of you, buddy. 🙂 my idea is to take all of them, pack them off to a desert island with no connectivity whatsoever. You can choose to provide them enough food and what not or maybe just a little bit too little doesn’t really matter, but they will be left on their own, without any money or attention or influence, and they can spend all of their time working each other’s nerves and figuring out who’s going to dominate who.

          Or solitary for life

            @evacide I am a bit confused - what *was* the connection between 3M and Watson Grinding?

            @penguin42 @evacide

            Watson Grinding is kinda famous: a thriller-movie explosion. A worn out hose allowed propylene gas to fill a workspace overnight.

            Boom. Truly horrific explosion. Killed three. The whole operation was sloppy.

            But 3M had a gas detection system which failed.

              @tuban_muzuru @evacide Yeh I'd known about Watson Grinding - hey I watch UCSCB - but I hadn't realised the detection thing was 3M, which yeh makes sense.

                @evacide first time I was asked to be an expert witness in an IP suit I just charged my regular consulting rate, not knowing better. When the enemy E.W. paperwork showed he was getting paid 4x my rate, I knew to charge a lot more on my second (and, very hopefully, last) E.W. gig.

                N.b. that was around $470/hour and 15 years ago. I expect the rate has gone up.

                        @evacide the first video link is a yahoo video link, with a mcaffee url referrer. not to call out people who use yahoo and mcaffee in this day and age… but come on that already speaks volumes!

                          @evacide There's a possible use case for AI in writing such reports 🙂: when you have to support a completely indefensible position. In the late 1960s, I watched a chess master play against a computer at MIT (i.e., when computers were much slower, etc,). It was down to the end game and it was obvious that the computer had lost. But it did a fantastic job of forestalling the inevitable - I presume due to exhaustive search rather than intelligence. It took 40--50 additional moves to checkmate it.
