If all you have a hammer, then everything looks like a nail.

If all you have a hammer, then everything looks like a nail. But if all you have is a screwdriver or a wrench, this doesn't necessarily mean that everything looks like a screw or a bolt, because either of those items can be used as an improvised hammer. Also if you have two wrenches you can break a padlock without needing boltcutters. I'm not actually sure what the moral here is

ooo that reminds me that i have to change my battery in my car's key fob. need to find some tweezers...lol.

@mcc this does in fact apply to screwdriver. screwdriver can be poker, lever, chisel, nailset, scraper, etc. when you have X, screwdriver looks like solution
@SarraceniaWilds @mcc I have a special screwdriver that's a dedicated destruction tool...

@benroyce My dad loves picking up cheap flea market tools, and he’s given me a couple of those putty knives that have a tiny hammer on the handle end. They also have a flip-out Phillips bit, so you can effectively deal with any drywall nail/screw pops. I’m not sure I’d want to drive in a real nail with that tool though!
@CAWguy dang! i do not know putty knives

@mcc If all you have is a screwdriver, you add screws to all your products and rename your product to screwed 365 or so.

@mcc Berkeley has a formalized tool library. I kinda miss it, but the informal one of friends and neighbors here has more useful stuff if I’m honest.
Was chatting with an architect friend about creating a library of spare light fixtures the other day.

@reiddragon @mcc ...can't find any evidence on that (in fact, i found a video where he debunks police claims about a lock), any citations?

@mcc The moral, obviously, is never cut the shackle of a padlock - if you do have bolt cutters, cut the body, the metal is much softer & won't damage the cutter jaws. I feel certain I'm not misreading this post in the slightest.
