@benroyce thanks for the info. I read her whole Instagram multipost, and I think she makes an unfortunate conclusion when she does not recognize that you can be confronting the Israeli government without being against the Jews.
She is millimeters from accusing Macklemore of antisemitism just because he criticises genocide. In my view, it is HER connecting Jews in general with the acts of Israel — not him — and that is really unfortunate.
the sickest thing:
when israel defenders call criticizing israel attacking jews
and antisemitic bigots say the problem of what israel is doing is jews
they're both misdirecting the same way. away from israel and towards jews

@jannem @grumble209 @randahl Yeah, I know, I did read your reply. I was replying to the person that replied to you about new acts and a new backing group.
@HollieK72 @jannem @grumble209 @randahl I'm just replying after reading your reply to the person that replied to the person who wrote this and then replied and yeah. Whew!

@randahl @paulk Sheeran’s statement on this was awful - a total cop out, doubling down on his desire to remain apolitical. Just terrible all around, considering we are dealing with a genocide.
Please look up statements by the bands that dropped out - they restored my faith in humanity.
Fuck Sheeran forever and ever (and I never say the F word, but damn)

Own goal of the century:
British singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran's Loop tour boots American rapper Macklemore, after Macklemore condemns Israel's genocide in Gaza.
Result:
American singer Fineas quits the Loop tour.
Dublin singer-songwriter Aaron Rowe quits.
Danish pop singer Lucas Graham quits.
Ed Sheeran's own backing band Beoga quits.
The tour was supposed to continue until December, but all that is left is Ed Sheeran and the support for Israel's genocide.
@randahl I didn't know they could do that. There's not a contract?

@benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague
They're /creating/ antisemitism where before there wasn't any. Not everybody out there in meatspace is as sophisticated a thinker as Mastodonians.
Before: "we're nice to Jews 'cuz of the Holocaust." Now: "Jews did their own holocaust. Fuck 'em."
-
@grumble209 @jannem @randahl So what new acts and new backing band will want to step into that clusterfuck right now? They will be the ones supporting genocide.
@HollieK72 @grumble209 @jannem @randahl people who are desperate for money so they can eat and pay the roof over their heads

Kudos for "meatspace".

And let's recall: Zionism never had a plan that was not genocide.
Building an ethnostate where other people live == genocide.
How was this smoothed over for 70 years?
@androcat @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague when people say that Israel has a right to exist, what they're actually saying and maybe not realizing is that Israel only exists as an Apartheid state, and could not exist without it. Supporting Israel means supporting this genocide and that's how we need to call that out. Not that they support Israel, or the Jewish faith and ethnicity, but genocide and only genocide.

@ManWhoTalksToHisHand @androcat @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague why can't we support both Israel state and Palestine state? They both should have that and be in peace.

@randahl A classic example of the "Streisand effect".
Mackelmore has put Gaza, and the genocide that is taking place there back in the public eye.
If he had been ignored then only those attending the concerts would have heard his point of view.
Now the whole world has been reminded of the government of Israel's attempts to eradicated the Palestinian people.

@ManWhoTalksToHisHand @androcat @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague why can't we support both Israel state and Palestine state? They both should have that and be in peace.
Because it was built on the land of other peoples?
And because Israel has made it clear that they cannot coexist with anyone.
What part of that is hard to understand?

Finished it, forgot this particular word. Still wondering why it has not been adapted for screen, that is one hell of an original script right there.

@Thatfeministwoman @androcat @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague what Palestinian state? I wasn't aware they had one. Israel dictates everything that they can and can't do and they change that up all the time. There is no two state. It's only Israel and the forever shrinking Israeli occupied apartheid state.

@androcat @ManWhoTalksToHisHand @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague this same problem is with Kosovo and Serbia but both deserve their own states. I still think that there are some people there that don't support taking more spaces and then there are those who are so loud and hateful who get all the attention. They should had stayed with the spaces that British gave them instead of getting greedy. And If it's to be believed that why they do this (take more spaces) they should have

@grumble209 @randahl
A power move would be for the musicians to say that okay, we're forced to play so we play. And then perform exactly as well as you would expect when you're forced against your will by the lead act and their lawyers. While making clear to the audience they're there against their will.
@jannem @grumble209 @randahl A better one would be for the musicians who left Sheeran's tour to sue the promoters, stadium owners etc for "constructive dismissal" by removing their right to free speech.
I believe that the right to free speech is a big thing in the US.
That would put this disgraceful situation and the genocide in Gaza back in the spotlight at repeated intervals as the court cases progressed.

@androcat @ManWhoTalksToHisHand @benroyce @lordkhan @randahl @FrancoisPrague build a wall instead k*lling them or taking their lands. Or maybe they could have had 50% of the land and Palestine the other 50? I don't know If that's just a dream

thank you
israel has a right to exist
palestine has a right to exist
the *only* way forward is a two state solution
but neither seems capable of working that out
israelis and palestinians were murdering each other long before i was born, and probably long after i'm dead
unless...
what?
i feel the two state solution has to be imposed on them by the world
but that is a *huge* ask
so we are stuck
