    @zzt@mas.to @c0dec0dec0de@hachyderm.io

    Apparently learning from the mistakes of the past which taught us that kernels do in fact matter quite a bit is weak and "social warrior" shit and we should just be ok if the thing All of Software runs on by definition just becomes a useless and broken pile of shit because they let the chatbot rewrite it all based on a plagiarized version of itself.

    Even when translating to what the phrase is poorly trying to pretend to be different from, I have absolutely no fucking clue what "social warrior project" is meant to convey because "social justice warrior project" is just not a phrase I can make any sense out of. It doesn't scan at all.

      @daemonspudguy @zzt I mean, also isn’t the idea of a high-quality kernel that supports older hardware (I know they just dropped like first-gen Pentiums and there was some furor over it) all free of charge kind of a social good thing if not social “justice”?

        @zzt do you remember when that was a new thing and we literally couldn't believe it could be that bad?

        and now we just can't believe it's still that bad.

              do you think any of the guys telling me I’m engaging in conspiratorial thought or whatever for pointing out who’s paying torvalds to do this shit will feel anything at all when they read “thank you Meta” in this bizarre fucking post? nah can’t be anything, the Linux Foundation doesn’t own the kernel somehow even though they own the guy who owns the kernel

              @zzt This is just the natural outcome.
              The real red flags where when IBM (that is working into AI from more than a decade) buyed Red Hat and when they pushed madly a broken systemD as the usual "it's the FuTuRe" in the same guise they are pushing Wayland... that isn't really ready yet either for a lot of cases.
              With these precedents why the LLMs push is so strange? Is just a normal development for these people.

                God I hope it somehow sparks a revival in the Hurd. Purely because microkernels are just better and I selfishly want my preferred technology to be proven in the desktop. /hj

                          @c0dec0dec0de @daemonspudguy @zzt i don't know how to evaluate that without further context but "so far" indicates it is a subject of active research

                              @zzt the people of 2001 had been violently disabused of this notion before it could form by the infliction of Windows ME and its garbage-ass kernel.

                                        The kernel it's using is Linux-libre (already a bad sign anyways because that kernel can't update microcode at all) version 5.10, which is absolutely ancient.

                                          I would try to find a specific source about their stance itself but their website is utterly impenetrable because it's all philosophical wankery that I can't make sense of because my eyes physically can't read it. The kernel version, though, is just right on the package list. Last updated August 2025.
