    @EricFielding @sundogplanets $$$expensive. You can make the flowers into wine, if you really wanted, too.

      Your table is ready, friends. (If you like to eat grass and dandelions, that is.)

            @EF We call these wonderful wild herbs 'pissenlit' in France because as medicine they are good for the bladder and kidneys. 🤫

            @NatureMC @ennenine @sundogplanets indeed. From the c15 as they were used as a diaretic.

            Manger les pissenlits par la racine also amuses me as the French version of pushing up the daisies.

                    @sundogplanets the dandelions are trying to repair the soil. Aerating and pulling up nutrients with their long taproot. Your soil is probably calcium deficient. It’s not a native, but not sure why it gets a bad rap otherwise. Lawn propaganda #killyourlawn

                            @EricFielding
                            The greens are diuretic. That's why they're called 'pissenlit' in French and 'Bettsächer' in some areas of Germany (both meaning piss-in-bed).

                            They're quite tasty, by the way. My grandparents used to harvest them on their meadows (I'm just not sure when they did so… I guess before the bloom)

                                @sundogplanets I have a pet lizard (blue-tongue skink) who *loves* dandelions. He's generally grown to be a picky eater with age, and I sometimes have to trick him into eating his leafy greens, but he will almost always take dandelions.

                                  @sundogplanets love this! Many people consider them weeds, but I thinkt they're pretty, particularly when you take a close look at all the intricate petals. Also not just tasty for goats .. Have you every tried making dandelion jelly? It's surprisingly tasty!

                                  @ennenine @sundogplanets They're pretty important for pollinators since they bloom in spring when flowers can be difficult to find.
