@Em0nM4stodon I have already walked away from a decades old linkedin account over this, after microsoft claimed there was a "security issue" with it and the only recovery option was to send them photos of ID etc.

I have 6 people who are active in the new place, a Discourse forum, and it sucks that there is no good app like Discord has but I'm not uploading my ID anywhere.

I really hope that politicians do not expect Mastondon to be able to use facial ID scans or upload other ID.Mastodon has a very small dev team with no money to pay for ID scans.
Unlike large social media, mastodon instances are usually moderated with clear policies on what is unacceptable practice.The way things are going in #Canada people might soon need something like a letter from the Pope just to connect to the internet.
The ignorance of politicians is staggering.

@Longspeak we're on the same boat, but just to be sure I already prepared a self hosted stoat instance and a steam group (we're all gamers that have steam) that reflect the discord server. So if something happens it's really just an invite.
