"On the acceptance of GenAI"
https://smallsheds.garden/blog/2026/on-the-acceptance-of-genai/@tante, love it. I'd use it if we weren't forbidding LLMs entirely.

@SharpCheddarGoblin @tante better doesn’t necessarily mean good.

"On the acceptance of GenAI"
https://smallsheds.garden/blog/2026/on-the-acceptance-of-genai/@tante What about "I agree to pay unnecessary expenses for this company that is going to fail."

"On the acceptance of GenAI"
https://smallsheds.garden/blog/2026/on-the-acceptance-of-genai/@tante “theft”
How far we’ve fallen from anticapitalism where a self described “communist” promotes the idea enriching existing monopolists through rent. What a fucking tool!
I still remember that the information wants to be free.

"There is literally no difference between you and a corporate product -- wait why are you booing me"

@tante [ ] I accept that the continuing scraping of the internet is a strain on service providers, even ones that don’t want to participate
@finestructure @tante@tldr.nettime.org people should take active measures against bad actors. Robots.txt was nothing except a suggestion, and we scraping is literally how ever search engine works

@Epic_Null @crankylinuxuser @tante
Data wants to be free. This argument simply doesn't work for those of us that have always been open data, anti copyright.
@komali_2 @Epic_Null @crankylinuxuser @tante Data does not "want" anything. Data is incapable of having wants.

And what if i train my own model in my own computer powered by solar with my own data?@paelnever @tante @crankylinuxuser then a lot of the concerns would be alleviated but the model would most likely be garbage. If AI didn't need horrendous amounts of hardware, energy and stolen data to "function", AI companies would not use horrendous amounts of hardware, energy and stolen data.

And what if i train my own model in my own computer powered by solar with my own data?The #MastodonHOA will still manufacture bullshit reasons to find you in contempt.
Remember, we're not permitted to have sane discussions of LLMs and other types of machine learning on Mastodon without the HOA's ire. It's all 'evil', going alllllll the way back to Eliza and spellcheck.
I mean, fuck. Even Ned Ludd realized that technology wasn't evil, but the centralization of the means of production to the owners was evil.

@buckfiftyseven @ai6yr @tante Sorry, that’s nonsense. Your business model is not my problem (not you in particular, any possible you who runs an ad-supported business). If I like your service enough to look at it, it’s still my choice as to how much bs I’m willing to put up with. If that means your business isn’t profitable and has to shut down, that’s still my choice as to whether I want to support your business model or not. Everyone has a right to decide how valuable your service is to them.

A PID loop is "AI".
3 Neurons: differential, integral, proportional. Has a training phase and a recitation phase.
And yes, you use it. Its everywhere control systems are used.
Spellcheck was OHHHH SCARRRRYYYY AAAAIIIIII in the late 1980's. Now? Its just spell check. Nobody cows about AI with that now.
K-Nearest-Neighbors is multidimensional linear regression. Same with training and recitation.
Even Word2Vec and tokenization was theorized by Leibniz (you know, that OTHER calculus founder), as a way to do calculus with words.
"AI" only means scary unknown thing until we understand it.
