hm, i thought KDE was trying to make up for platforming the nazi.

a solid aspect of social existence:
1. bully bullies someone. observers stand around watching
2. bullied person fights back. observers go "woah woah! stop!"
alternatively:
1. bully bullies someone. people complain. authorities do nothing
2. bullied person fights back. authorities act. and punish bully and bullied the same, sometimes the bullied worsei don't know what it is about sociology, but you see this time and time again
from school principals to... social media mods
The story of centuries...
The "cause" is never punished...
The "effect" is usually punished.
---
The effect should walk.The cause should go to jail (or similar, depending what the cause is...)

it really is the case
{someone gets victimized}
statement to victim: "well why were you there? well why did you act like that? well you should have done {X}..." etc., etc.
statement to offender: {crickets}
it's something about humanity that is deeply wrong and powers a lot of malice in it

hm, i thought KDE was trying to make up for platforming the nazi. lots of people today saying "let's give KDE a chance!"
nope, they're now doubling down further.
this post is a study in the art of nazi apologetics in online discourse - removing the content of the issue and leaving only a description phrased to sound innocent.
what happened is that the straight-up nazi was posting, someone identified that this person was a straight-up nazi, the nazi admitted they were that nazi, then KDE banned the person calling out the nazi and kept the nazi
KDE *later* banned the nazi - after public outrage at KDE's behaviour - but the person who called the nazi out is still banned
the social media person sympathising here with the nazi tries to claim that calling out the nazi is equivalent to real world violence.
@davidgerard
You can tell they're the good guys by the way they're twisting themselves into knots to justify defending a Nazi. -
@despicable_me @davidgerard I don't trust that narrative, since pointing out someone's prior public statements is in no way "doxing". If the author is willing to misrepresent the situation to that extent, they're not a reliable narrator.
@womble @despicable_me @davidgerard that narrative is additionally simultaneously a paean to slop and a dissembling bothsidesing, it's astounding how terrible it is

@davidgerard thrown out and hopefully let back in when it turns out they punched a Nazi right?

@davidgerard I just read KDE's blurb.
"KDE is an open community of friendly people who want to create a world in which everyone has control over their digital life and enjoys freedom and privacy"
An open community ceases to be a community, when a Nazi enters the neighbourhood. -

@admin This is something you should probably be made aware of, if you're not already.
While I don't know that KDE has directly violated your rules at this point in time, they have demonstrated that they don't really represent what your server stands for anymore and are exhibiting a lot of disturbing and dishonest behaviors.

@davidgerard seem you need glass.
They remind people how to report nazi, instead of attacking him / her directly in case he / she's innocent.
We need order and rules ..., where nazi are removed properly, not witch hunt.

@davidgerard Didn't they ban both ?

@Rhube who the fuck runs that fucking social
@davidgerard @Rhube I have a suspicion that it's Nate, or at least he has posting access.
I feel they should have taken a little more time.

Like he handles some other public comms.
https://pointieststick.com/about/
"In his spare time, Nate blogs about newsworthy topics through KDE over at blogs.kde.org, triages KDE bug reports, and helps build the KDE Linux operating system."
Perhaps they should budget for a community manager?
Perhaps even get someone outside our Eurocentric bubble? That post wasn't conciliatory at all.
It's a rugby tackle away the phone moment really.
I'm not mad at KDE I'm just disappointed.

@davidgerard Was the other patron sitting in the restaurant in a tight black Hugo Boss uniform, leather boots and all, with a big red armband with a black swastika in a white circle on it, and was holding the hand in a "Roman salute" at the moment of being punched? We're missing a bit of context for the "a user walks into a restaurant" allegory...

@darkpixel what a disconnected and fatuous comment

@davidgerard
> doxxing — posting receipts of a nazi spewing nazi rhetoric isn't doxxing. This was later corrected by KDE in as maliciously compliant a manner as possible (using strikeout so that every instance of "doxxing" remains in the text)

@davidgerard fascinating how it's always worse to call someone a Nazi (with receipts) than to actually _be_ a Nazi.
-
@davidgerard to be fair, I would be ok with someone walking into a restaurant and randomly punching a nazi
@coegho @davidgerard I’d definitely tip the waitress if I saw her randomly punch a Nazi (that she was previously serving) in a restaurant. I’d put it on my credit card, she earned it.
-

@Mabande @davidgerard you should always call them “phrenology inclined” the first time.
— So and so, seem to be phrenology inclined, given his comments in the forum. I wonder if we need to embrace phrenology in our code base.

@skyblitz
“Order and rules” alone are quickly subverted by by nazis, because you can't write enough rules for every case, and right-wingers are adapting faster than any governance process.Many communities have fallen to this already.
