Hi! I’m new here. I’ve tried Mastodon a couple times but maybe third time’s the charm! I have become increasingly disillusioned by mainstream social media and I’m searching for ways to connect with other people outside of an algorithm.
I teach high school English and I read a lot. Currently at book 92 of a read around the world project. I was a teen in the 90s and still trying to keep my grunge phase alive. I love art and film too.

@imaginaryuncle i’m with you, my friend. I have been banned from/chased off of basically every mainstream platform by people who are either too scared of Trump, or trying to impress him.
This place is kind of my last stand as far as my Internet presence goes.

Welcome (back)! What are your most memorable books so far and which places do you still need titles from?@ayl Hi! The Covenant of Water (Ethiopia) and Hungry Ghosts (Trinidad) are a couple that stood out. I’m reading Reef (Sri Lanka) now and really enjoying it. I’m still struggling to find an Israeli book that I can feel good about reading.

I'm a chemistry teacher and I post what we're doing in classes every day just because. I talk teaching a little bit here and there, not as much as I used to on Twitter. I have mixed feelings about how that period influenced my work...lots of things to think through as I get older.
