And I think it's possible we will see people leaving in masses much larger than now, so that the relief you describe will be common too all users of the internet - again perhaps a relief we bring with us AFK. It will take a generation or two to get there, but it will be worth it and the effects will be felt at every step.

We actually have an issue open for that: https://github.com/nodebb/nodebb/issues/13127 Basically we should make it more readily apparent that a category can be followed and posted to. For Mastodon you have to mention the category. Mastodon conflates addressing and notifications. Other software could potentially address the category instead of mentioning.
