Citing “lived experience” as evidence something works is literally the tactic of homeopaths and antivaxxers when confronted by large-scale or structured studies disproving their claims. That this now seems to be the go-to argument of the pro-“AI” crowd is a huge red flag.

Did not expect this to draw out the antivaxx crowd, but I should have. What a world we live in.

@Dangerous_beans @baldur I have just learned that my instance, ohai.social, does. Sounds like I should be happy about that.

Also, I warned about exactly this – that "AI" fans risked getting pulled into the same kind of mindset and false ideas as naturopaths and homeopaths – over a year ago under the heading "Self-experimenting with psychological hazards is always a bad idea"

          https://www.baldurbjarnason.com/2025/trusting-your-own-judgement-on-ai/#self-experimenting-with-psychological-hazards-is-always-a-bad-idea

The usual suspects responded with something along the lines of "well that makes me a proud naturopath"

@Dangerous_beans @baldur of course it’s a racist shit with a pepe profile picture. I had view this thread in a browser window where i’m not logged in to see it, so i know i’m on an excellent instance that blocks those kinds of things.

@baldur it’s also an entirely valid statement, enabling minority communities to express their struggle with racism and marginalization.

The fact that the pro-AI community, and frankly also the anti-vaxxers, have co-opted it is an insult to its origins. It’s at the same time making fun of the minority communities who used it as a plea for empathy and understanding, and stealing its power and trying to co-opt it to manipulate and influence. All in all reprehensible.
