@jwcph I've stuck with a lot of lower tech versions of things for years for exactly this reason. We desperately need to wind some of this mad "technological improvement" back, because it's just fucking around with things for the sake of it, and totally unnecessary, both for our cognitive load and for the environment.

At best it's badly misinforming to quote a fucking chatbot, even as an unhinged participant in the conversation, especially without making it clear why. At worst you're giving him credit where none is due & he did exactly what it looks like. If this journalist doesn't like people assuming he's an irresponsible idiot, he should talk with his colleagues, who've been boosting this AI bullshit with scant criticism for years.

@inkican The contents of #InternetArchive are valuable treasure. It's too bad that its UI is so horrible, that metadata of archived items is unreliable, and that it's often impossible to get anybody to correct mistakes. When I complained about inaccuracies in some items on their forum, the consensus was not that I should contact somebody to fix it. The suggestion was that I should upload another copy of the materials with the corrections. Do better @internetarchive .

Unfortunately Microsoft does all it can to inhibit document exchange.Latest trick is to make a new standard font for Word (Aptos) that is proprietary and closed. Only available to word licensees. In Aptos Microsoft has defined a very odd spacing of characters. The result is that if you as a LibreOffice user recieves a Word documents where the creator in Word just uses the standard font (Aptos), format changes will occur.Past versions of Word used Arial as a standard font and that font was available to other platforms and products.So Microsoft has once more been able to make rendering of docx files in other wordprocessors as difficult as possible. Every Word user will point at the alternative word processor as not good enough or faulty.The solution is to persuade the Word users to use Arial, Liberation og another open font family as standard font in Word

@Pepijn when we moved into our house, we didn’t know how old the detectors were - so we changed them. We also wrote the installation date on them so we know how long they’ve been up.Great advice here!
