Yep. Followed the same trajectory as the gentrification of trendy neighborhoods:
          • young artists do cool stuff
          • young people doing cool stuff attracts attention
          • attention attracts money
          • young artists are priced out
          • money chases money
          • eventually billionaires arrive, ruining whatever's left

@michelestrider My wife asked me something about Burning Man and I said I hadn't given it any thought since I was reading Mondo 2000.

Which is not actually true, because I always enjoy the Black Rock Radio broadcasts from Soma FM.

@linuxandyarn I haven't listened to Black Rock Radio in years. I should, but usually just go between Groove Salad and Lush.

@michelestrider the impression I got in the late 90s was that it went to hell a year or two after whoever was saying it had gone to hell had first been.

I wonder what he thinks of it now.

@michelestrider The thing is, you can go to Burning Man and never interact with the billionaires. They might as well not be there (in every sense).

Yep. Followed the same trajectory as the gentrification of trendy neighborhoods:
                                          • young artists do cool stuff
                                          • young people doing cool stuff attracts attention
                                          • attention attracts money
                                          • young artists are priced out
                                          • money chases money
                                          • eventually billionaires arrive, ruining whatever's left

I have personally seen this happen twice in Huntsville, Alabama.
