I didn't know it was Jack. I didn't know the target other than the hostname/IP.

He knew there was little chance anyone else was hacking around the network in our tiny school other than me.

I was terrified someone was on to me, like out of a fucking trashy 90s movie about hacking; but it was just poor opsec as always

He didn't let me know that was him for fucking weeks.

I was deep in the backorifice rabbit hole once we got a cable modem. I had a PC with a S3 video card with a composite video out. I hooked it up to a VCR and a 6 hour tape on SLP, and started a scan of 24.0.0.0/8 (early comcast IPs)

I then got the tape in the morning and fast forwarded until there was a port open on 31337, cataloged it, then kept fast-forwarding...

this was way before I started using BSD rather than DOS/Windows3.1(1)

I would never had thought of that as a kid. I did things very caveman-ish. I didn't learn the automation mindset until my early 20s when I got obsessed with "can I optimize this process" in EVERYTHING. Warehouse work, construction, meat cutting, sales; I was obsessed with automation/efficiency lol

I would have just sat there watching the scan like an absolute shitshow of a goblin lol
