@reynir No surprise that we're on our 3rd decade of total dominance by Microsoft Certification programs and packaged software license monopoly.. the early marketing/hype culture had already done so much to how people thought?

@reynir it was back in the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) days, I'm almost sure it was about how costly it would be - that we didn't have support services was almost definitely also a factor. I guess back then, a lot of proposals to use Microsoft alternatives were refuted this way?

But I also felt that people had this huge fascination/loyalty about the shiny tools from Windows Server, ASP.NET etc.

Back in ~2001, me and my colleague (both young, self-taught devs) were very annoyed that the whole company had setup shop on Microsoft. It was especially MS SQL that we had a hard time with. It was slow, expensive and lacked features.

So in our spare time, we created a version of the entire website running on a free, faster MySQL.

The IT manager hated it, and the owners blocked it. Looking back, we were surrounded by Microsoft "fanboys", so even "cheaper + faster" didn't reach through.

@malte @liaizon If all the fiscal hosts are free to choose whatever KYC provider they want, why did Open Source Collective choose Persona? And isn't Open Source Collective (the fiscal host) the same people running Open Collective (the platform), just wearing different hats to let us know that the KYC integration developed by OC has nothing to do with what KYC that OSC chooses?

(abbreviations used on purpose to emphasize the silliness of OC finger-pointing at OSC)

    benjaoming@social.data.coopB benjaoming@social.data.coop

@liaizon @OpenSourceCollective @opencollective thanks for clarifying! This is so confusing, I remember this now and I think it'll be nice if people who are experts in transparency also got a bit more clever about how that mechanism works when it comes to naming stuff almost identically 🤪

@liaizon I can see how being able to trust Open Collective is important, and maybe that extends to some ability to avoid white-washing schemes by criminals that use open source projects as a way to move money... but honestly sounds completely unlikely and I don't think validation of personal documents are gonna help... especially not with a third-party... it's easier to trust OC.

The people that cheat learned to trick verification systems years ago or pay/coerce someone to represent them.

  • DR har en artikel om en ung iværksætter som ejer 80% af en virksomhed som der er blevet investeret i så hans andel er 40 mio.
    benjaoming@social.data.coopB benjaoming@social.data.coop

@mjack @CiaraNi ironic that the .day domain (like .dev) is owned by Google... tells a lot about how hard it really is to break free from big tech https://blog.google/company-news/outreach-and-initiatives/entrepreneurs/today-dotday/

(also great initiative, seems like listing Danish events there would be a very quick and convenient way to join/connect the dots on the map)

    Here are some potential rationales:

"Mutual aid can be great, but unfortunately it invites bad actors."

"AI can be great, but unfortunately it invites bad actors."

While I find mutual aid highly sympathetic, I don't find a lot of stuff around AI sympathetic. So I think we should block AI bots and keep the mutual aid allowed ✌️

I was just spammed by a Hugging Face bot account. It seems to be trained on Gaza mutual aid requests.

I don't believe that AI bots should be interacting with the Fediverse, they should be blocked.

    1. Block hf.space - that will extend to all subdomains
    2. Datasets - how did they get harvested? Are they shared? Who's doing it?
    3. AI bots are already present in the Fediverse, this one was probably just a badly disguised one.

This is a very serious incentive they both have. That's why the negotiations with Iran didn't matter when Trump and Netanyahu knew they could have a HUGE war with Khamenei's assassination as an initial success.

While the natural gas from Siberia is pumped up and contributes to climate change, the permafrost around it melts (which will release a heaps gasses that accelerate climate change).

But it also means the many bridges of the train track supply lines are failing. Because their pillars have nothing solid to stand in.

So humans have built nitrogen cooling elements. To re-freeze the permafrost around the pillars.

So they can keep pumping up gas 🤪🤪🤪🕺⚰️

The US used their time to talk in the UN to sound pretty much as insane as Danny Danon... saying that because Iran hit civilians in their strikes, it proves how inhumane they are.

JFC, have you seen you own bombs? What does that prove then? That Trump should be assassinated?

Israel is now talking in the UN about Iran's existential threat to Israel. Asserting that Israel *had* to act because Iran was an existential threat to Israel - but Israel was (now asserted by the war) always an existential threat to Iran.

Israel has proven that Israel is an existential threat to all countries that disagree with them. No logic in this reasoning whatsoever here, it justifies to build a proportionate artillery.

And that's the logic of war - it's run by complete idiots.

Weren't the US in negotiations with Iran? Then the next day, they unilaterally bomb against all international law.

Our useless media will show us Iranians that are cheering, but it will not show you the civilian casualties, nor talk about the wide-ranging consequences of this destabilization. It will repeat the same propaganda that regime change can happen through bombing.

We'll be told to live in some fantasy that the war machine is more precise or more humane in 2026. It's madness.

The US-Israeli illegal bombing of Iran is just one of many Hitler-like aspects of Trump's megalomania and evilness.

Trump's out-spoken complicity in the genocide of Palestinians, and his plans for ethnic cleansing is Gaza + his alliance with Netanyahu is enough to call his humanity when it comes to war (crimes):

Regime change never worked. This is not an action to free the Iranian people. Don't be naive. They'll get the same freedom from this as the people of Libya, Syria and Iraq.
